Eternal Sunshine: Students Get a ‘Thriller’ Surprise

The Edge staff and Gannon’s Department of Theatre, Communication and Fine Arts present a Halloween treat, Michael Jackson style. People in the Waldron Campus Center had no idea what was about to happen. Enjoy!

Honors Society Takes a Walk on the ‘WLD’ Side

Starbucks, homework and a football game are all common activities for a college student’s Saturday afternoon – not horseback riding, archery and a low ropes course. On Sept. 26, 19 students from Gannon’s chapter of Phi Eta Sigma were able to forgo the typical Saturday morning routine and partake in outdoor team-building activities at the WLD Ranch in Girard, Pa.

Getting hands-on experience is a major part of the educational process – especially as a college student.

At Gannon, students in the field of environmental science, biology and other related majors have the luxury of using the Environaut, Gannon’s own research vessel.

The Environaut gives students a chance to learn how aquatic and environmental life are connected in a direct way that books wouldn’t ever be able to.

J-School Cool: Living Wabi-Sabi

Every job has its hazards – pastry chefs probably gain a few pounds here and there. Left-handed carpenters have to be really careful with power tools. And writers? Well, we live too much in our own heads. It’s just part of the job description, I suppose.

Eternal Sunshine: Back Again and Ready for More

Another fall break has come and gone, complete with the obligatory ‘lets-do-lunch’ texts to every person you ever knew in high school, the time with family and nearly-full week of ZERO classes.

That last part is probably my favorite.

But while I spent most of the time trying to just recharge my batteries, I also took a lot of time to think about the stuff coming up for my third year at Gannon.

When we experience art in a gallery – like the Schuster Art Gallery at Gannon – we feel human. We feel alive. When we are surrounded by art on a daily basis, our minds are opened and expanded.

And now to add to that in our daily lives here, Gannon recently acquired a painting by Joseph Plavcan; considered Erie’s most influential and renowned artist.

Student Fave: Students Find Home Away From Home at Local Eatery

There’s nothing better on a lazy Sunday than a nice warm breakfast with friends to ease the pain of the end-of-the-weekend homework crunch.

That is exactly what The Sidewalk Café offers. Tucked away at 26 N. Park Row, just a few blocks from Gannon’s residence halls, lies Erie’s quaint eatery adorned with photos from local artists that decorate the walls.

Craving chicken fingers with a side of scrambled eggs? Not a problem – lunches and dinners are offered all day. Conversing over the aroma of home-cooked bacon makes it feel like sitting in mom’s kitchen – and it tastes just as good, too.

Student Voices: Where’s Your Favorite Place to Study?

Last week, Edge staffers went backstage at Gannon’s Schuster Theatre to catch up with cast members of  “Dancing at Lughnasa.” They’re actors, but they’re also students. In addition to learning lines and blocking, they’ve got to study, too. So, we wanted to know:

“When you’re not rehearsing, where’s your favorite place to study?”
