Keeping a Job in School: It is Possible!

Balancing schoolwork, extracurricular activities and a job can be quite the juggling act – but many students at Gannon are willing to take on the challenge. College is a time of making new friends, learning new things and ultimately preparing for the future. One way students experience the responsibilities of the future is by holding jobs during the school year.

At Gannon, students have several options about the type of work they can pursue. One option for students is to find a job through Gannon’s Work Study Program. This program, which is coordinated by the Financial Aid office, offers nearly 400 on-campus jobs to students. (Note: eligibility to participate in this program depends on the student’s need as determined by the FAFSA application, as well as criteria set up by the Financial Aid office.)

LAN Parties Intrigue Editor – And Not Just For the Pizza

When I came to Gannon, I found out we have a student chapter of the worldwide Association for Computing Machinery, or ACM. Upon hearing the name, I decided the club wasn’t for me. I assumed it was a club based on designing computer software and hardware.

I was right – but there’s much more to it. I’m glad I opened my mind and tried something new.

Gannon’s ACM focuses mostly on promoting everything related to computers and computer science. The club members, who can be any major, give lectures on computer programming languages used to write computer software – like Scheme and NetBeans – participate in programming competitions and host LAN parties.

Eternal Sunshine: The “Between” Phase

Eternal Sunshine of the Student MindThere is always that time between Christmas, New Year’s and going back to school that feels sort of strange. I mean – don’t get me wrong – I’ll take all the days off I can get before packing up and heading back north! But still, it’s that time after getting and giving presents where you finish writing thank you notes, take the Christmas CD out of the car and try to get your head set up for the upcoming semester.
