Software and Swivel Chairs

I spend a lot of time at my computer; I’ve come to accept that fact.

For all people pursuing a software-engineering degree or any other computer related field, it is probably worthwhile to buy a nice desk chair. I, myself, need to go buy a new one since my old one is now in the trash somewhere.

Students on and around a college campus are always looking for fun things to do. One of Gannon students’ favorite exciting places is Harbor View Mini Golf course.

Harbor View Mini Golf course is located a convenient eight blocks from campus, allowing students the chance to have fun close to their home away from home. Cost will always be a factor for college students, but never fear! This putt-putt course is inexpensive even on a college student’s budget. Despite the low cost, the playing course is uniquely and professionally designed. It challenges all skill levels, so whether you’re a beginner or a putt-putt expert, you’re sure to have fun.

1,000 Words: International Blend

The One Green World Cafe is a new and exciting place to bring together international and local students. This student organized shop was at first a dream; starting as a desk where coffee was sold in Zurn. The desk soon became a stand, and now Gannon has a new (old) building to add to the map.

The building was purchased by Gannon last year and now is furbished with recycled goods; retired desks, beds, tables, car seats, and parts of the prior bar have all been renovated to become lounge seating, high top and café tables and creative decorations that give the café a cozy but worldly feel.

Not only is this a great place for Gannon students but for the community as well. Some of the profit made from the delectable food and drinks along with tips goes to benefit local charities. This week, the money raised will be given to the Neighborhood Art House.

Our first topic is Halloween. Tell us your favorite candy, Halloween costume, memory from Trick-or-Treating, or whatever else you can think of and your thoughts may end up on Edge!

Check back next month to see if your 140 characters make the cut.

Living the “Suite” Life in North Hall

Some of Gannon’s new freshmen have been given the opportunity to live in the new suites in North Hall. See what a few of them have to say about it.

Becah Ford, biology/ pre-med:

I have found North Hall to be a great place for my home away from home. My roommates and some of my fellow freshmen have become like family to me. The new building is a nice addition to Gannon’s campus and I feel so lucky to be living in it; it makes the transition from high school life to college life much easier.

GU Speak: What’s A.J.’s Way?

“GU Speak” is a new monthly post that lets you in on the lingo used around campus.

A.J.’s Way is the brick walkway running from 7th Street to 8th Street next to Zurn Science Center. It is named for A.J. Palumbo, who donated $1 million towards the renovation of the Academic Center that also bears his name.

While A.J.’s Way is most often traveled by students on their way to or from class, it is also the location of many activities throughout the year. Some of these activities including fundraisers, Box City (a charity fundraising event hosted by Campus Ministry to raise awareness of homelessness) and Light Up A.J.’s Way, during which the entire path is brightly lit by Christmas lights.
