“I am literally dying to be skinny.”

“If my friend hadn’t knocked on that window, I wouldn’t be here today.”

“I want to run down AJ’s Way naked.”

These are some of the secrets of the students at Gannon University, submitted to PostSecret U. PostSecret U is hosted by Active Minds at Gannon, a club dedicated to raising awareness about and reduce stigma surrounding mental health.

During the event students can anonymously submit postcards with their secrets written on them. The postcards are then put on display for anyone to look at, discuss and write responses to on post-it notes. Last year over 200 secrets were submitted from the Gannon community alone and many more from mental health groups in the Erie area.

This year, the display will be in the Schuster Theatre lobby from March 31 till April 11. The display is free and open for all to view, and secrets submitted during the display will be added to it.

In addition, this year’s PostSecret U at Gannon brings two new events:

In collaboration with APB, “Dyeing to Tell” is an event at The Knight Club where students can enjoy food, tie-dye shirts and submit secrets, all for free. The event is Friday, April 4 at 8:00 p.m.

To help close PostSecret U, artist and mental health advocate Stacy Pershall will speak at the Schuster Theatre on April 10 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Her life story of living with borderline personality disorder and overcoming bullies, an eating disorder and a suicide attempt will surely be an inspiration to all.

The original PostSecret project was started by Frank Warren in 2005. Since then, he has received millions of secrets from all over the world. He has written four books containing some of these secrets and does speaking engagements all over about the project. He maintains a website, which updates with new secrets every week: http://postsecret.com/.
