As Thanksgiving approaches, it’s more important than ever to think of those who don’t have the same privileges that we do.

For this reason, the Center for Social Concerns sponsored Gannon’s annual Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.

On Sunday, the Knight Club hosted a T-shirt swap. Attendees were able to swap their T-shirts with someone else and then spray paint designs on it. During the activity, there was a screening of “Storied Streets,” a film that tackles the reality of living on the street.

Tuesday featured Soup with a Substance, which was co-sponsored by APB and held in the Yehl Alumni Room. At this event, students enjoyed a light soup dinner and heard from a guest speaker on the subject of homelessness.

Penny Wars took place in Waldron on Thursday and Friday, with all proceeds benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank of NWPA. Students used spare change to vote for their favorite Thanksgiving baskets, which were put together and decorated by on-campus organizations. Finally, on Saturday, the baskets were delivered to local refugee families.

Throughout the week, students were reminded of the importance of service and thankfulness. Hopefully everyone in the Gannon community continues to give back to those in need year-round.
