Summer in Pittsburgh is off to a great start. I’ve really enjoyed getting to see all of my friends from high school, and it’s been nice to spend a lot of time with my family. I’ve already gotten to go swimming, which is one of my absolute favorite things about summer. Summer concerts are almost a tradition with my friends — we saw three shows last year — and I’m excited to see some more this summer.

Though I love to relax with my friends, it’s not the focus of my summer this year. I just started working again for one of my neighbors and I’m on the hunt for that elusive second job. All of the money that I make this summer is going toward my Paris trip to provide food, books and certain other necessary items that are found at the many designer boutiques around the city.

Even though I’m home, Gannon is still on my mind as I get ready for next semester. I’ve started looking to purchase my textbooks and school supplies. Though it’s a bit early to purchase anything, I’ve also been mentally decorating the apartment that I will be sharing with three of my friends next semester.  I’ve found different examples of everything, from pots and pans to posters and framed pictures to hang on the walls.

I love having posters and different pieces of art around to make me feel more at home. Last year, my room in Wehrle Hall was covered in posters and little things that reminded me of home and of my friends. I really don’t like staring at blank walls, and having posters around definitely helped me to relax when I was stressed or had a lot of homework.  It’s sometimes nice to have little distractions for those moments when you just can’t look at your computer or textbooks anymore.

Hopefully the rest of the summer will be as amazing as these last few weeks have been for me. I hope your summer has gotten off to a great start, too!

Talk to you soon,

Sarah
