Gannon’s Mary Reilly (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District II women’s soccer first team released Friday afternoon. As a result, she will now move to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Reilly landed a spot on the academic all-district first team for the second consecutive season with a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average. The Physician Assistant major also received Capital One Academic All-America third-team honors last year.

The Akron, Ohio, native has been named a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete and received the NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Association (ADA) Academic Achievement Award each of the last two seasons. She has played in 53 matches the last three years, starting 49.

Reilly has been part of a Gannon defense that ranks sixth among all NCAA Division II schools in shutout percentage (.647), recording 12 shutouts. That same defense ranks 10th nationally in save percentage (.880) and 18th in goals against average (0.58). Offensively, Reilly has two assists this season.

The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District II women’s soccer teams were selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The first-team members will now move to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released Wednesday, November 28.

The NCAA Division II District II consists of the same NCAA Division II colleges and universities listed athletically in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region. The district includes the PSAC, the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC), the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and independent Washington Adventist. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant reserve on her team.
