It’s official – March Madness is officially here. Basketball brackets are starting to show up everywhere you turn and spring is finally back in the air, so what better time to take advantage of everyone’s spring fever and hold an outdoor event? Alyssa Tregaskis had this exact thought.

Tregaskis is helping to plan a cornhole tournament centered around March Madness on March 21 at 4 p.m. Here at Edge Magazine, we had the chance to catch up with Tregaskis for some details about the event.

“The tournament is called Cornhole Madness,” Tregaskis said. “It is a cornhole tournament incorporating the NCAA March Madness tournament also. There will be multiple NCAA Basketball games playing throughout the evening on the TV’s, simultaneous with the cornhole tournament, and also over $1000 in raffles! Food and refreshments will be served and also winners of the tournament will receive prizes.”

Funds from the event are going to benefit the T.R.A.V.E.L. program. The choice to fund this particular program was easy for Tregaskis.

“We chose the T.R.A.V.E.L. group here at Gannon to help keep the funds raised here at the university,” Tregaskis pointed out. “Traveling to new countries can be such an expense to young people and helping them to be able to see new places and grow as individuals seemed like a great cause to donate to here at the university.”

In addition to the event itself, which will pit teams against each other in cornhole, there will be various raffles available to participants in the tournament.

“We have so many awesome prizes that will be raffled off and great food to go along with it. We hope for it to be one of the most successful events at the Knight Club this semester!” Tregaskis mentioned.

Tregaskis has had a large influence on the planning of the event, and it has been very enjoyable for her.

“We have been working very closely all semester with Julie Durst and Sam Hyman to plan the event,” Tregaskis said. “Also, multiple organizations across campus have donated baskets to the raffle and the support of the student body has been tremendous so far.”

Since her time here at Gannon University, Tregaskis has had plenty of experience planning all aspects of events.

“I am the group leader for the Knight Club Promotion Project in the Capstone Business Course Business Policy,” Tregaskis said. “I am a senior Marketing major and am responsible for making sure we complete all of our requirements for the event and also creating a new marketing plan for the Knight Club.

“Tickets will continue to be sold until March 20 and they are $6 a person or $12 a team,” Tregaskis said. “You can get a ticket from our table in Waldron from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. or by email to tregaski001@gannon.edu. Event starts at 4:30 p.m. March 21.”

If you find some time in your day, be sure to come out for a little friendly competition and enjoy the weather.
