Guatemala – Day 2

Guatemala – Day 2

During our second full day in San Lucas Tolimán, we had breakfast at the biblioteca and went on dish duty afterwards. Once the dishes from breakfast were done, we took a 15-minute ride to the women’s mission where we learned all about traditional medicinal plants!

A member of the women’s mission, named Francesca, took the group on a tour through the mission’s grounds and spoke to us about different plants and their uses. We then joined her in the kitchen for an herbal tea she made herself!

After our tour, we headed back to the biblioteca for a delicious lunch of fresh homemade tortillas, pico de gallo, chicken, guacamole, baked potatoes and delicious fruit. Once we were finished eating, we left for our first day of construction service, which consisted of helping build a home for a local family. This included loading dirt, digging, and helping spread the dirt across the ground for a solid foundation.

After we finished our service, we got soft serve ice cream to help us cool down! We then took a sunset drive around Lake Atitlán and saw the beautiful communities along the lake. Afterwards, we headed back to the biblioteca for dinner, and our hotel for reflection!
