Greetings from sunny Ruskin. This is Mark Jordano, accompanier. We started the day with a tour of the Ruskin campus. Trenton did a fabulous job (with an assist from Joel) showcasing the wonderful facilities and amenities of the campus. We were able to see the small gator on the pond and enjoy lunch on the patio.
We worked at Beth-El in the afternoon. We had the honor of serving 650 families of migrant farm workers. Beth-El uses a client-choice model where they walk shopping carts thru the pantry and get to decide which items they want. Ruskin ABST team members were handing out soup, milk, beans, nuts, and rice. We were able to greet each family and speak with them briefly – Kaif took the initiative to speak as much Spanish as he knew and added to his vocabulary throughout the day.
We were all very tired after 5 hours of serving but were very energized by the meaningful work. We enjoy a great meal together at Pita Kebob with lots of laughs. We ended the day with a touching reflection where some profound experiences were shared.
