We started our day with an impromptu cultural conversation shared over warm cups of coffee, yogurt, granola, and toast. Shortly after breakfast we prepared for our first service activity of the day; planting in the garden.
Time in the Garden . . .
Our group began by weeding the front beds of the El Arca home to prepare to plant the succulents and cacti that José (core member) and Mariana (Head of House) picked out the day before. Of course, as we were working away in the garden, Blaki and Celso (the core member’s dogs) were eager to be a part of the action and spent time with us in the flower beds.
Painting in the House…
After working in the garden we spent our siesta time sitting in the sun, reading, napping, and going on a walk outside. The core members returned home from work and school around 3 PM in time for the afternoon meal. We ate delicious food and learned more about the members living in the El Arca house. Shortly after our meal and clean up, we began painting the walls of the kitchen and hallways as our last task for the day.
