Depression and anxiety have become increasingly common in today’s college students.

In fact, 16 percent of college students have reported that depression had a negative impact on their performance academically in 2017 and anxiety impacting over 24% of students.

With depression and anxiety affecting more young adults, it’s important for schools to provide strong resources for their students and for students to take advantage of the

Depression in College Students – The Numbers

  • Around 31% of college students have considered suicide
  • Over 60% of college students have felt overwhelmed by anxiety at least once in the last 12 months
  • Over 39% of college students “felt so depressed that it was difficult to function” at least once during the 2016-2017 school year

To overcome these problems the students are using all of their sources of support and encouraging others to do the same. It’s difficult to overcome challenges alone so if you are dealing with depression or anxiety, don’t do it alone. We are here to help.

I may be writing a lot of statistics, but I have also seen and helped a close friend that deals with anxiety and depression. I didn’t realize how serious it was until I witnessed it with my own eyes. It showed me what it took to overcome it.

Talk with the people around you, the people who love you the most. They will always be there for you and will listen to you.
