The Gannon University chapter of Pi Theta Epsilon honor society for occupational therapy (OT) students and alumni will present Dining in the Dark, an event to increase awareness and promote advocacy for individuals who experience low vision or no vision.

The event will be held Sunday, April 8 from 1-4 p.m. at The Knight Club, 162 W. Fourth St., and all proceeds will benefit the Sight Center of Northwest Pennsylvania.

Guests will dine on a meal of spaghetti, salad and garlic bread, but will be doing so with their vision blocked by blindfolds to dramatize the challenges faced by individuals with vision loss on a daily basis.

Occupational therapists help people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations). Bernadette Hattjar, Dr.OT, associate professor of occupational therapy, added, “Occupational therapists advocate for disability awareness and support this mission throughout our Erie community, as exemplified by this event.”

Tickets are $10 for adults or $4 for children under 12 and may be purchased at the door. For more information about the event, contact Pi Theta Epsilon President Sadie Brunot at brunot002@knights.gannon.edu.
