In this blog, I will be giving short summaries of many interesting crime documentaries that I have watched on Netflix. Here are some of my favorites:

Documentary #1: Evil Genius

If you haven’t heard of Erie’s most famous crime, this documentary is a must watch! This documentary is all about the Pizza Bomber case, which 2 of our criminal justice professors (Dr. Jerry Clark and Mr. Jason Wick) worked on when they were in the field!

The investigation begins when a pizza delivery man, Brian Wells, walks into a bank in attempt to rob it. Wells, a potential hostage, walked into the bank with a bomb around his neck. After Wells robbed the bank, the police were notified and had Wells surrounded. Not long after he was caught, the bomb went off and Wells died minutes after.

A few days later, Bill Rothstein reports to the police that there was a dead body found in a freezer and says the person was killed by Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong, who was known for having a few boyfriends who all mysteriously disappeared. The case then turned into a scavenger hunt, with many potential suspects, including Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong.

This robbery investigation is full of strange details that make this documentary worth watching. The documentary is so intriguing that it will be hard to stop. Plus, it occurred in Erie, so why not learn more about the strangest bank heist in history?

Documentary #2: The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann

In 2007, while vacationing in Portugal, 3-year-old Madeleine McCann disappeared from her hotel room while her 2-year-old siblings slept in the bed next to her. Madeleine disappeared while her parents and friends enjoyed dinner not far from the room. Madeleine’s parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, checked on the room frequently throughout the evening, but Kate realized that Madeleine was not in her bed.

Over the next few weeks, Portugal officials believed that Madeleine passed in an accident and her parents tried to cover it up. The McCann’s were considered suspects until July 2008 due to lack of evidence.

As of 2019, there is still no sign of Madeleine. Madeleine would be 16 years old. This investigation is full of many different details which makes it so interesting. The McCann family is still fighting to find their daughter and will not give up until she is found.

Documentary #3: Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes

Last but not least, my favorite crime documentary on Netflix. This documentary is not only interesting, but it will also make your skin crawl, which is perfect for the Halloween season!!

Ted Bundy was a very attractive and smart man. He used those qualities to get women to trust him. Bundy was arrested multiple times before he was incarcerated for his crimes. For his final trial, Bundy was appointed to be his own lawyer, which was very surprising to many people.

Ted Bundy was charged with hundreds of different crimes against women. He committed his crimes in 6 different states (Washington, Utah, Florida, Oregon, Colorado, and Idaho). Before his death, he confessed to many of his crimes to different agents in different law enforcement agencies.

The Ted Bundy Tapes is a very intriguing documentary and I highly recommend it. Not only do you hear from officers and agents who investigated Bundy’s crimes, you hear from Bundy himself talk about his own crimes.

Final thoughts…

And there you have it!!

I have always found crime documentaries interesting and I am so excited to share some of my favorites with you!! I hope you enjoy some of my favorite crime documentaries on Netflix!
