Springtime is finally upon us! I carefully selected these fifteen tracks for either their references to the change in weather, or simply their sunny vibes. This is the perfect collection of songs to listen to while coasting around Presque Isle with the windows down.
Countdown – Phoenix
This song is the first one that came to mind when planning this playlist. It has such a springtime vibe and Thomas Mars even sings, “We’re sick for the big sun.” It doesn’t get any more perfect than that when describing Erie-ites in April.
New Slang – The Shins
Maybe it’s because I have listened to this song in Spring in the past, but when I think of the feeling of this time of year, this classic from the Garden State Soundtrack comes to mind.
Young Folks – Peter Bjorn and John
Something about the whistling in this tune makes me feel liberated from the cruel winter we just endured. By the end of this track, you will be whistling along (if you can).
Time Spent in Los Angeles – Dawes
It is no secret that I am a huge Dawes nerd. I love this song and it’s corresponding music video. This song was my go-to on my trip to Europe in the Spring of 2015, so it just feels like April to me.
The Only Place – Best Coast
Sometimes, I like to pretend like I am from California. I think that some of my fellow Erie citizens will agree. This dreamy beach rock track from Best Coast’s 2012 album of the same name will let you escape to a state without the perils of snow.
Don’t Dream It’s Over – Crowded House
This song has nothing to do with Spring, but it puts me in a peaceful yet ambitious mood that reminds me of this time of year. I hope it does the same for you!
Mykonos – Fleet Foxes
This chill track from the indie icons will transport you to the Greek island of Mykonos. It will make you question the possibility of teleportation and leave you longing for inter-dimensional travel.
No Hope – The Vaccines
I don’t know what it is about this song, but it just feels like Spring to me. Vibes unlimited.
Diane Young – Vampire Weekend
If this fun song doesn’t get your head bopping, you may need to contact a doctor. It conveys the message that has also been called “YOLO” by young folks. Call back!
City In Silhouettes – Funeral Party
“This is your moment, this is your time!” What phrase better exemplifies the fresh start that we all get in Spring? When the sun finally comes out of hiding, you feel a sense of determination to win the day!
Little Secrets – Passion Pit
Passion Pit is one of those bands that always gets me dancing and feeling great. I hope this track does the same for you!
The Moment – Tame Impala
This song is the personification of chill. enjoy the dreamy synths and vocals over steady drums and thumping bass. Be careful to not fall into a trance if you happen to be listening to this song behind the wheel!
Take A Walk – Passion Pit
You may know this song from the Doritos Locos Tacos commercial from Taco Bell. Once again, Passion Pit has got me grooving to the beat. Whether you like the tacos or not, this is a great song for Springtime.
Soak Up The Sun – Sheryl Crow
This song is an American classic. Nuff’ said.
Here Comes The Sun – The Beatles
We have been waiting for this since about October. Finally, after we have waited patiently, Erie is becoming the sunny beach town that we all love. Ladies and gentlemen, here comes the sun.
