Former Gannon football student-athlete Evan Twombly (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) has signed a professional contract to play with the Erie Explosion of the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL).

Twombly was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter at Gannon. The former tight end was the program’s fourth-leading receiver as a senior in 2011 with 14 catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns. In addition to providing solid blocks for the running game and pass protection, Twombly hauled in 37 passes for 505 yards during his collegiate career. That resume included five touchdowns. He participated in the 2013 Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Collegiate Showcase last March in Akron, Ohio.

The Erie Explosion capped an undefeated season in 2013 by winning the CIFL Championship. The team begins its title defense Sunday, February 9 at Northern Kentucky. The home opener is slated for Sunday, February 16 against Marion at the Erie Insurance Arena.
