The three banners that we, as the Gannon community, recently signed in Waldron Campus Center will be traveling with our basketball teams and wrestling team to their NCAA Division II National Championships this weekend.

hi five

Each team will carry their banner to their championships as a reminder that we, as Gannon Knights, will always support each other regardless of the outcome.

Students have been nominated by peers via Twitter to #highfive4GUpride by signing these banners. Simply signing shows that we have their back as they go represent Gannon athletics.

However, as even more support, there will be send-off celebrations as students are encouraged to gather at the buses and actually high five the teams as they journey off campus to make us proud.

As Knights, we will be sending off women’s basketball Mar. 12 at 6:30 a.m. Then, we will be sending off men’s basketball Thursday, Mar. 12 at 7:15 p.m. We will be with our wrestling team in spirit on Friday, Mar.  13 as three of our Gannon men travel to St. Louis, Missouri for their national championship.

These national rankings provide pride for all of us as Gannon students. ‘We are all Knights,’ will be something heard around campus much more. The #highfive4GUpride hash-tag is not just for this send-off. The greater goal is to eventually have these banners and celebrations for all large achievements by Gannon students.

What if we…
… got together and high-fived our theatre program before their first show of the year?
… used #highfive4GUpride when Totem wins another national literary competition?
… wished our Greek life luck before bid week by tweeting or saying it in passing?

We wish to high five and support all student successes. We are Gannon. Let’s set a precedent. Let’s support each other in the things we do.

In the meantime, we hope you signed the banner to wish our teams well and we will see you at the buses.
