As our Spring 2017 semester gets underway, we are all trying to get adjusted to our crazy schedules.  A useful resource for any college student is the university library.  Here are 5 things you should know about the temporary library location that can help you succeed!

  1. Name and temporary location of library. Don’t forget your Gannon ID!

I know, frequent library users just cringed, but there are still people on campus who don’t know about this great resource.  Because Nash Library is under major renovations, all library services have moved to a temporary location at 131 West 9th Street across from Palumbo and next to Morosky.  The building is a tall gray and white tower – hence the name, Knight Tower.  An important thing to remember is that the entrance of the building faces the Knight Tower parking lot.  You must also bring your Gannon ID for entrance to the library, so keep that ID handy!

  1. How to avoid a library parking ticket!

A new development this semester is the monitoring of the Knight Tower parking lot by campus security.  Students are still able to park there, but for “LIBRARY USE ONLY.”  If you want to park your car while going to study or check out a DVD, all you have to do is sign in at the Knight Tower entrance booth.  After showing your Gannon ID to the booth attendant, provide your license plate, name, and time in.  When leaving, make sure to sign out.  These steps will prevent you from receiving a $25 city parking ticket, and no one wants one of those.

  1. Let there be light…and bathrooms!

Have you heard the rumor that the Knight Tower is a dark and desolate building?  I’ve heard it quite a few times, but I am happy to tell you that it is not true!  First off, there are south facing windows with natural light.  There are also dropped ceiling artificial lights that create the perfect study atmosphere.  Need a quick bathroom break?  Bathrooms are available on all student floors (Floors 3, 5, and 6 if you didn’t know).  As a female who has been subjected to long waits for the bathroom, this was music to my ears.

  1. Feeling lazy? There are online library resources!

Sometimes, as college students, we don’t feel like leaving the comforts of our beds.  Whether the library is closed or you just don’t feel up to the walk, journal articles and eBooks are available online.  You can access these online resources through the Nash Library link under campus links on My Gannon, or visit library.gannon.edu/homepage.

  1. Need help? Looking for computers?

The Library Service Desk is located on the 3rd floor.  If you have any questions about books in storage, books that your professors have put on reserve, or library questions in general, there is always help available on the 3rd floor.  Having trouble connecting to Gannon’s Wi-Fi?  You will find the ITS help desk on the 5th floor.  Also available on the 5th floor is a computer lounge with Windows computers as well as four Apple Macintosh computers.  If that’s not enough for you, there is a computer lab available on the 6th floor as long as a class is not using it.

So just remember, if you are in need of any library services, there are still plenty of resources available down at the Knight Tower!
