It may surprise some readers to find out that Edge has been around since late 2009. It may also surprise readers that 2009 was a little over 6 years ago. 6 years. It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. 2009 was the year “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyed Peas was the #1 song and Slumdog Millionaire won best Picture at the Oscars. Plenty has changed since then, especially here at Edge (and Gannon University), so I went back through the archives to find out what Edge staffers were writing about in the site’s inaugural year.

Edge polled all the theatre students involved in 2009’s production of “Dancing at Lughnasa.” The consensus among them was the study rooms and third floor of the Nash Library and the Schuster Theatre. (naturally)
A Record Number of Gannon Students GIVE
In 2009 GIVE Day broke all previous records for participation with almost 950 people volunteering. A staggering number considering that only 100 people were at the first GIVE Day.
Commuters at Gannon Get the “College Experience”
At the time of this article’s publication, the Commuter Corner had just recently been renovated to provide commuter students with a fully decked out space to eat, study, hang out or even nap. There were 172 commuter students “living” at Gannon in 2009.

This year we are getting country musician Chase Rice, but in 2009 it was Jason Derulo. He performed at the Hammermill supported by We the Kings and Enter the Maine. This is crazy to think about given how big Jason Derulo was and still is.
Lady Knights: Congratulations on a Dream Season!
2009 was the year of a #1 ranking for the the Lady Knights basketball team and a trip to the final four. Sadly, that was as far as they got, but it was and still is a major accomplishment.
