We spent our first day in Guatemala exploring the towns around San Lucas and learning about the culture. We went to mass this morning; mass was in Spanish and the church was overflowing with people. After church, we had breakfast and headed to the boat. We visited Santiago first. In Santiago, we rode on a tuk-tuk (mini taxi) to the church where we learned about Father Stan Rother and his martyrdom. Then, we took the boat to San Juan where we learned about the process of making chocolate and got to try some authentic 70% cacao chocolate. After that, we had a delicious lunch with a beautiful view and shopped with the street vendors and headed to the boat.

Once we left San Juan, we went to San Antonio. This port was less tourist-y so we didn’t stay very long. We walked through a ceramic store and learned about the history of it in San Antonio. Later, we went exploring and found an awesome spot for a photo-op, then we went back on the boat. By the time we came back to San Lucas, it was time for dinner. We ate at the mission and grabbed some ice cream after. When we came back, we took some time to reflect on our day. Finally, we had a bit of free time which meant ending the night chatting together and catching up on sleep.
