ERIE, Pa. – While many were focused on the court during Gannon’s recent men’s basketball championship run, the Golden Knights were also continuing their long-standing tradition of community service by reading to kindergarten students at Clark Elementary School in the Harbor Creek School District.

Gannon men’s basketball student-athletes visited the elementary school on Thursday, March 5 as part of Read Across America Week. Two days before hosting the 2015 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Final Four, the Golden Knights sat down with the kindergarten class. The squad spent time reading to the students, as well as listening to the students read to them.

The National Education Association is building a nation of readers through its signature program, NEA’s Read Across America. Now in its 18th year, this year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources.

Three days after their visit to Clark Elementary School, the Golden Knights captured the PSAC Championship with a heart-stopping 69-66 victory against nationally-ranked Indiana (Pa.) at the Hammermill Center.
