For those of you who are not familiar with Gannon sports, I will provide you with a Gannon sports update. Since I am someone who knows little about Gannon sports, I decided to interview 90.5 WERG general manager and sports director Tom Barton.
Men’s soccer is having a stellar season.
“They’ve been having a really strong season, but I am not one hundred percent up to date,” Barton said. He also mentioned that there is a strong chance of them developing a playoff run.
Women’s soccer is also having a strong season.
“They made the PSAC semi-final last year, and the same coach staff runs both the men’s and women’s teams simultaneously,” Barton said. “I would not be surprised if both teams made a playoff run.”
Currently, Gannon’s football team has a losing record and are not doing so well in their conference.
“The problem with the football team is that they hit a rough spot halfway through the year,” said Barton. “It put a damper of their record.”
The men’s waterpolo team had an absolutely dominating season with a 13-5 record. They are also undefeated 7-0 in their conference.
“They made the playoffs a couple weeks ago,” said Barton.
According to Barton, it is too early in both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams to predict what their seasons will look like.
The women’s basketball team lost their first basketball game of the season, but Barton is not troubled by this loss.
“They play very well at home,” said Barton. “The schedule tends to be an even split between home and away games, and they have a shot at dominating this season. They have made the playoffs consistently the past few years. While it is too early to predict, I would not be surprised if they managed to clinch a seed.”
The men’s basketball has been up and down over the past few years, but Barton mentioned that there is potential for an up year this season.
“They got some recruits and transfers, and I would say they have a shot to be really good, but it might take a game or two for them to get used to their new lineups,” Barton said. “But once they do, they will have a pretty good shot at being a good team this year.”
