Something that I have noticed at the beginning of each and every year is that people come up with goals that are very ambitious. Some of these are great goals that you are able to keep up with throughout the year, however, many of these goals are almost impossible to stick to. The other problem that I see with the traditional “New Year’s resolution” is that, many of these goals should be life-style changes and habit changes that you should carry throughout your entire life. If you have ambitious goals, don’t just set them for the upcoming year, set them up to inspire you for the rest of your life.

Below is a list of 3 great goals you can set to inspire you throughout the rest of your life.

  1. Get in touch with your spiritual self

Whether you are someone of strong faith or not, it is good to make sure you stay grounded and in touch with yourself and the world around you. You may find that you like to find your inner peace in many different ways such as prayer, meditation, and even workouts or yoga. Listening to calm music is also a great way to collect your thoughts and to stay calm and grounded. As we all know, getting to know yourself and staying in touch with yourself are long term goals that you can continue to work on for many years.

  1. Working on your physical health

One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to lose weight or to get in shape. Your health and weight situations or struggles are not things that can be completely solved and perfected in a year’s time. Your weight loss and health journey are life-long goals that have many ups and downs and hardships along the way. One thing that I always say to myself when I feel like giving up is “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” To me, that quote is very powerful, and it helps me to stick to my goals. Just try to remember to eat in moderation and to drink lots of water. Don’t give up, you’re on the right track!

3. Working on your mental health

As someone that has struggled with mental health for their whole life, I know that you can’t fix the whole problem in only a year. The problem with trying to figure out everything within a year is that if you don’t feel like everything is solved by the end of the year, you may end up feeling like a failure and that is not a good thing. You should never feel bad or feel like you’re disappointing someone because of internal things that you’re dealing with. If you need help with anything it is okay to ask. You should never feel bad about needing to talk to someone about what is bothering you.

Whatever you feel like improving or changing about your life, habits, or health, remember not to give yourself too small of a time window to accomplish your goals. Make sure to give yourself as long as you need to be the best version of you that you can be.
