If you’ve lived in Erie long enough, you’ll know that this town loves its bars. A walk-up State Street will find you at a different bar with every street corner. There’s plenty of beer and bar snacks to please every passing soul—the same could be said for the art scene that is ever-present downtown.

Each month, the Erie Art Museum hosts an event known as Gallery Night. As a college student, this is not an event you want to miss! Any chance to see 17 different galleries blooming with art for only three dollars is hard to pass up. 

It is the perfect chance to channel your inner Patrick and get out to see the work of local artists. The best part of Gallery Night is that it is within walking distance of Gannon’s campus.

So, what is Gallery Night?

In essence, Gallery Night is whatever you make it. The Erie Art Museum likens it to “a pub crawl, but with art.” It’s a time to gather with loved ones to dine, to shop, and to explore Erie’s culture. This event happens six times a year. The next Night is coincidentally tomorrow, September 20^th from 7 to 10 p.m. I encourage you to check it out. September’s event has 17 participating galleries, including two world-class works of art. With a variety of collections on display, everyone can find a piece that sparks her interest.

How did I find out about Gallery Night?

I first heard of Gallery Night my junior year of high school. As an advanced photo student, I had the privilege of showcasing my work in the PACA gallery (one of the participating galleries at Gallery Night!). This opportunity allowed me to witness how wonderful Gallery Night truly is. Hundreds of people come to see the hard work of local artists. There’s laugher, music, and an atmosphere of appreciation for the culture of art. This atmosphere is a big reason why I chose to go to Gannon. I wanted to immerse myself and explore all that Erie has to offer. I urge you to do the same. Grab your friends and make this event into your very own Gallery Knight experience!
