Hello from Detroit!

Today was a busy day for us! We started doing our service at Earthworks and spent the day preparing the hoop house (similar to a greenhouse) for planting. This was not an easy task at all, especially with the unusually high temps we had (80s). We were joined by different volunteers in the morning and afternoon and enjoyed telling them about why we were there and learning about them.

All were so delightful to work with! While some of us worked to get rid of weeds, some got to plant things like celery and leeks. It was so rewarding but also exhausting! We enjoyed some downtime when we got “home” to relax, shower, and enjoy dinner made with love by Ella. Her $25 budget provided us with giant baked potatoes (from the Westside Market in Cleveland), all kinds of toppings for the potatoes, asparagus (also from Westside Market) and baked chicken – it was all so yummy!!

We then headed off to see the Detroit Tigers play the Oakland A’s. Comerica Stadium was beautiful and we had a gorgeous night to take in a game! A highlight was seeing a former Erie Seawolf player (Wenz) make his MLB pitching debut to start the game! Although the Tigers lost (9-0) and Skyler didn’t catch a fly ball, the group had a wonderful time! After a quick snack, all of us headed to bed to prepare for another day of working in the garden tomorrow.
