Every year, Gannon’s Yehl Ballroom is taken over by the delicious aroma of pizza as local pizzerias compete for the title of “Gannon’s Favorite Pizza.” This year marks the 7th annual competition. Attendees to the event sample a variety of flavors and styles of pizza from local pizzerias including Porky’s Pizzeria, Little Caesar’s, Hungry Howie’s, then vote on their favorite slice.

The event takes place on Tuesday, February 10, from 11 a.m.  – 12:30 p.m. Admission is $5 by cash or GU Gold.

“The Pizza Competition is a great success because we have a supportive community and a great Senior Class Gift Committee that encourages attendance from students, faculty and staff,” said Miranda Grom, director of the Annual Fund for Academic Excellence.

The Senior Class Gift Committee holds fundraisers annually with the pizza contest as one of their biggest fundraisers.

“The Pizza Competition is an annual event that everyone looks forward to,” Grom points out.“ The Senior Class Gift Committee does an excellent job with posting flyers, coordinating Waldron advertisements and social media postings. The entire Gannon community makes this event successful!”

Tickets can be bought in advance and there are opportunities for students to get involved in the event as well.

“There is an opportunity for students to sell tickets at the door,” Grom mentioned. “They’re always welcome to contact me if they’re interested.”

The event, as always, is a popular one in the Gannon Community, and will even feature a live broadcast by 90.5 WERG!

“Students, faculty, staff and the public are welcome to attend the event,” Grom reminded everyone. “Each person will sample pizza from the six participating pizzerias and then vote for their favorite pizza. The winner will be announced on WERG and printed in Gannon University publications.”

Sample Erie’s best pizza and be sure to cast your vote Feb. 10! Who knows, you may even find your new favorite pizza restaurant.
