Gannon University’s student-athletes proceed to top many of the charts this week. Not only has the football team seen its best start in recent years, but the volleyball and softball teams are making strides.

For starters, junior running back Brock Jones was named as the PSAC Western Division Offensive Player of the Week. In Saturday’s game against Clarion, Jones had 213 yards on 32 carries, putting him at seventh on the school’s all-time single-game rushing list. He has 651 yards on the season so far, and is ranked second in the PSAC and fifth in the nation for yards per game.

Sophomore outside hitter Jordyn Thiery was named as the PSAC Division West Volleyball Player of the week. Thiery has played a large role in the Lady Knight’s 13-1 season, looking especially strong during the team’s games against Slippery Rock and Edinboro. She posted 19 kills and a .280 attack percentage during the two matches, as Gannon handed both squads their first conference losses of the season. She also contributed 2 assists, 10 digs, and a service ace to the weekend cause. Since then, she has continued to dominate, adding 14 kills and 15 points in a match against Edinboro last week.

And finally, the Gannon softball team tied for eighth-highest team GPA in the nation. This marks the fifth time in six seasons that Gannon has ranked in the top 17 in this category, posting a cumulative 3.498 this year. All students on a team who hold a 3.5 GPA or higher are named as NFCA All-American Scholar-Athletes, and 12 softball players earned this distinction this past year.
