It’s only the first full week of classes and I can already see that this semester is going to be a little bit crazy. Between a full credit load of nursing classes, being editor-in-chief of Edge, holding the presidency of my fraternity Zeta Beta Tau and trying to maintain some sort of social life, I’m sure that sleep will be lacking.

Oddly enough, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If there is one thing that college has taught me, time management is necessary. Most of the time sleep doesn’t fall into my ‘must do’ category. You learn to sleep when you find a spare moment. Call me old fashioned, but I observe Sunday as the day of rest – mostly because it’s the only day that I can find time to sleep for more than four hours.

Even though the sleep deprivation can be kind of draining, I am really excited for the first semester of my senior year. I can already tell that I am going to like most of my classes – with exception of maybe one – and my professors all seem to be really good.

The one class that I don’t think I will like as much is Healthy Restoration of the Older Adult. It’s a class that focuses on patients age 65 and older and the health problems that they encounter. It’s a useful class, but not my area of interest. My clinical rotations for Older Adult are mostly in nursing homes. I like more of a fast paced environment, like a critical care setting. I think I always will.

I will also be taking a management and leadership class this semester which I think will be my favorite. I plan to go into nursing leadership and administration in the future and this class definitely gives me the tools I need to do that. It will also help me with my various leadership positions on campus. It will be cool to take stuff from class and see it implemented in my current life.

And with that thought, I am back to my never-ending to-do list.
