Last weekend, I attended a concert put on by the Erie Philharmonic.  It was phenomenal!  The concert was at the Liberty Park Amphitheater which sits right in front of the bay.  The weather was perfect, and for the first quarter of the concert, the sun was setting right behind the performers.  I don’t think there can be a more aesthetic experience; nature and art coming together as one.

The band played classical masterpieces composed by Edvard Grieg, Johann Strauss, and others.  They also played some familiar songs like “La Bamba” and the theme from “Harry Potter.”  Their final piece was Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” accompanied by a mock-battle.

The battle was between real cannons (shooting blanks, of course) lined up along shore and the USS Niagara out on the water.  The overture was playing while the cannon blasts were going off; it was grand.

If you can’t remember what the “1812 Overture” sounds like, check it out on YouTube.  Listening to the song, you’ll see why the whole performance was so awesome.

Aside from the concert, I spent time with friends and relaxed.  I have a busy (but good) week ahead of me.  I hope your weekend was a fabulous as mine, and have a great week!
