Animal-loving students flock to the Erie Zoo on breezy Erie afternoons. The zoo holds a variety of wildlife – nearly 400 animals and over 600 species of plants! And every visitor has their personal favorites.

The red pandas are some of the most talked about animals in the zoo because of their pure Asian descent and rarity. Other popular species include mini-horses, giraffes, cheetahs, monkeys, aquatic animals, reptiles and the famous trunk-sized rhinoceros.

In addition to birthday parties and a menagerie of animal-themed events, the zoo’s most anticipated affair is the Halloween celebration known as ZooBoo. During ZooBoo, kids under 12 trick-or-treat all throughout the vicinity while families participate in crafts, corn mazes and a “Monster Mash” dance party.

The zoo is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., March through November. Gannon students are never too young for the awe, entertainment and pure happiness provided by the company of animals of all kinds.
